Our Story
Rejected Stones was born from a simple conviction: that a beautiful church grounds speaks the Gospel to everyone who passes by, whether they know it or not.
"The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes."Psalm 118:22–23
How It Began
Rejected Stones began with a drive past a church — beautiful inside, but invisible from the road. Nothing drew the eye. Nothing invited the passerby to wonder. The grounds were tidy but mute, when they could have been singing.
That observation sparked a question: what if the exterior of every church became a work of sacred art — visible to thousands every day, costing them nothing but a glance, asking nothing but a moment of wonder?
From that question, Rejected Stones was born. We are a nonprofit dedicated to transforming church grounds into lasting, beautiful witnesses of faith — using natural stone, marble statuary, native plantings, and warm accent lighting to create sacred landscapes that speak without words.
Our Belief
The great cathedrals of history were built not merely for the faithful inside, but as signs to the entire surrounding world. Their spires, their stonework, their gardens — all declared: here is something worth your attention. Here is a doorway to the transcendent.
We carry that same conviction into the modern streetscape. Every installation we create is designed to stop the mind mid-commute — to pierce, however briefly, through the noise of the day — and plant a seed of beauty that points beyond itself.
We believe that beauty is one of the most ancient and universal forms of evangelism. It requires no argument, no confrontation, no invitation. It simply is — and in being, it draws.
Sacred art and landscape have always been part of the Church's witness. We continue that tradition in concrete, stone, and soil.
Every installation is designed for permanence — materials and craftsmanship that grow more beautiful with each passing decade.
We serve churches, not our own vision. Every design reflects the tradition, devotion, and character of the congregation we partner with.
Rejected Stones was founded by a small group of faithful Catholics, landscape designers, and stone artisans who believed that beauty in the public square is a form of mission. Today the organization is led by a volunteer board of trustees and a small staff dedicated to making sacred landscape accessible to churches of every size and budget. We are 100% donor-funded and partner with skilled craftspeople across the country.
Our Commitment
Rejected Stones is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Every dollar donated goes directly to the design, materials, and installation of sacred landscapes on church grounds. We publish our financials annually and are committed to complete transparency with our donors and partners.
We serve churches regardless of size, budget, or denomination. Our grant program is open to any congregation with a visible property and a vision for beauty — and we work with each church to ensure the installation honors their unique tradition.
Help us bring sacred beauty to church grounds across America — one stone, one statue, one planting at a time.
